This lesson will discuss the corn rootworm complex, which consists of the northern, western, and southern corn rootworm, focusing on the northern and western species. The information in this lesson will focus on the biology of corn rootworms in the north central Corn Belt, including Iowa and Nebraska.
At the end of this lesson readers should be able to:
- Identify the corn rootworm (CRW) and describe the CRW life cycle and behavior
- Describe damage and subsequent injury caused by CRW
- Explain the root injury rating scale
- Explain how biological and environmental factors influence CRW
- Know the early season soil insect pests
